Food waste collections – thank you!

Thank you to everyone who has taken part in the new food waste scheme. Over 231 tonnes have already been collected – that’s more than the weight of 38 elephants!

Every caddy emptied makes a difference – reducing waste, cutting emissions and helping create renewable energy and compost.

We know there have been a few issues, so thank you for your patience while the new service settles down. Crews are working hard to keep things running as smoothly as they can.

In the meantime, please place your food waste bins at the boundary of your property by 7am on collection days, as crews are reporting that some are not visible from the road.

The new 180 litre black bins must now be used for your general waste collections as loose sacks, tubs or other bins cannot be collected in most cases.

Find out more here, including how to download the app and sign up for collection day notifications

Candidates for county council election confirmed

The West Sussex County Council election is taking place on Thursday, 7 May 2026.

The process will elect 70 county councillors to represent local areas (called divisions) of around 12,000 residents each.

The candidates can be found here

Arun launches five-year plan to protect, restore and enhance nature

Arun is home to an exceptional range of habitats – from ancient woodland and chalk grassland to coastal shingle, saltmarsh, rifes, rivers and nationally important marine environments.

Yet, like the rest of the UK, the district faces increasing ecological pressures from climate change, development, habitat loss, and pollution.

Arun District Council has launched its new Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP), setting out a five year programme to protect, restore, and enhance nature across the district.

Project 39 – completion of the Youth-Led Creative Transformation of Hotham Park Subway

An incredible transformation of an unloved subway in Bognor Regis, led by young people, local school children and multiple artists and partners, has now been fully installed.

Now featuring over 70 metres of original art, the project set out to turn the subway under Hotham Way into a space that celebrates local young people’s creativity and what they love about their town.

Annual dog beach ban comes into force on 1 May 2026

We are reminding dog owners that the annual restrictions on Arun’s bathing beaches come into force this Friday, 1 May 2026.

To keep our beaches clean, safe and accessible, dogs are prohibited from the beach areas below, between 1 May and 30 September each year:

  • Bognor Regis – from Bognor Regis Sailing Club ramp to Gloucester Road
  • Felpham – from Canning Road to Felpham Sailing Club
  • Littlehampton – from East Pier to Norfolk Road

Dogs must be kept on a lead when walking on the promenades alongside these areas.

Information can be found here
