Action to reduce energy costs and combat climate change in East Preston

As parish councillors, we are all too aware of:

• Rising energy costs and their impact on residents and business; and
• Climate change, how hard it is to green our households and decide what action to take

In response to these concerns, we have been working with West Sussex County Council and others on a plan to provide solar panels to residents at no upfront cost.

Our plan takes into account many of the barriers people face when trying to take action on climate change, such as:
• Not having enough money
• Not knowing what action to take, and
• Not knowing what technologies and suppliers are best for their situation.

What have we done so far?

We have:
• Conducted a geospatial survey of East Preston to assess the potential for solar power in the parish
• Developed a plan with West Sussex County Council to pilot this in East Preston and Angmering

Next step, we are:
• Applying to the Community Energy Fund for project development funding

Our launch

We held ‘Reducing energy costs and combatting climate change in East Preston’ events in East Preston and Angmering in March 2024. Here is a presentation used at those events.
