The Village Design Statement (VDS) was created by the residents of East Preston, led by the East Preston & Kingston Preservation Society with help from East Preston Parish Council.

The Design Statement is the result of months of public consultation on how East Preston residents would like to see East Preston look in the future.

The VDS was endorsed by Arun District Council at its Full Council meeting on 9th January 2008 as a material planning consideration. Whilst the VDS is not a formal Supplementary Planning Document under current planning legislation, it has been endorsed as a material planning consideration by the Local Planning Authority. This means that applicants and agents should consider seriously its contents because planning officers and the Development Control Committee of Arun District Council will assess and determine planning applications having special regard to the VDS.
